Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore 2019
Guided by Charles Ryan of Sticky Rice Travel, this trip included Singapore, Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, and Raja Ampat at West Papua. Everywhere we travel in SE Asia can be considered biological hotspots with wildlife under threat. All areas have set aside parks with wildlife found nowhere else in the world. There is extraordinary color and diversity in all floral and faunal families. The wonderful local wildlife guides are very proud and protective of their parks. They need to be. The underwater reefs found in Raja Ampat enable the diver and snorkeler to view vast protected, pristine coral gardens and sea creatures like nowhere else in the world. Just amazing. But all are under assault from powerful, non-stop human activity especially logging, mineral extraction, illegal pet trade, and a local taste for bush meat.
