From Guayaquil south to the Peruvian border are lands lightly traversed by tourists except the seasoned birdwatcher looking for local rare species. The few scattered ecolodges keep it that way. With hardly any organizations funding and protecting habitats, the main enterprises seem to be mineral extraction. Pristine habitats are being lost, local native tribes displaced, and all under the radar.
